This road cut is about 8 miles east of Spring Valley on County 8. The top is in the Stewartville member (think gastros, macs, and cephs) of the Galena Formation and the rest is in the Prosser member of the Galena. It starts just as the road turns to gravel. DO NOT go there after a long dry spell. Everything will be covered with dust! But right after a rain or in the spring it is a prolific cut! You will also see lots of chert embedded in the limestone. Chert was used by the Native American’s as an alternative for flint because it chips well for making arrow heads.

This road cut is about an 1/8 of a mile but on both sides. I found my first nice big crinoid segments here in the Prosser member.

And this is what I collected in about 10 minutes after taking some pics.
