A week or so ago, I got a message from a guy named Bob in Rochester. His 8 yo grandson was coming for a visit from California and the child loves to fossil hunt! He was researching where he could take his grandson fossil hunting while here and came up with my name and my other blog “BluffCountryWoman.com – Adventure and Fun in Bluff Country” and left me a note in the comments. I got back to him, suggested the BluffCountryFossils site and Fossil Adventure Blog and that he buy his grandson the $3.99 magnifying visor from Harbor Freight — I just love mine and gave my granddaughter one this past week too. And I suggested several hunts for them.

They took their grandson fossil hunting and here is what Bob had to say:

“We stopped at Harbor Freight on the way home Sunday and got him a magnifying glass with a light,  he loves playing with it every day. Wednesday we took him to Fillmore and went south on county road 5. Had a wonderful two hour hunt with him and found about 18 fossils ( one small Prasopora Conoidea). He was so pleased he had to call his mom and tell her all about it. Thank you for all the leads and the fast repley. It was a wonderful time with our grandson.”

I’ve helped other people with kids’ hunts and in general, but this one was special. To me, sharing is what it is all about!

This just came in as a reply to one of Robert’s comments/questions…

“Robert,
not sure when u posted. if he is still coming, take him to the housing construction site where they just put in a waterfalls located between century high and target. about across from northern valley vet clinic. about 50 percent of the rocks along the undeveloped street contain fairly good fossils. brachiopods, cephalopods, bryozoan. so far the workers do not seem to mind me scrounging around. it is flat and easy to walk. not many weeds. ideal for kids. if u find anything significant, let me know. good luck. mike”

I love it when people share!
