Easter was a lovely day with temps in the high 50s and blue skies. We decided on an Easter supper and put the ham in the oven. Bob went motorcycle riding on his Harley and I went fossil hunting.
After a long winter of freeze/thaw there should be a few new fossils just fresh out of the rock and I was pleased with what I found. I can tell I’m becoming more discriminating about what I care to haul home in my fossil backpack. I hit two spots and this is what I found…
This is one of the largest Maclurites I have ever come across! Stuck in the rock.
This appears to be a fair sized Isotelus pygidium. Remember that trilobites molted their parts as they grew, so finding parts is not unusual.
I’m inclined to think that this is a trilobite part on edge.
Here is a look at my haul for the day. Several complete Maclurites, pieces of cephalopods and gastropods, and one absolutely lovely Holopea! One of the best I have ever found!
