These little ones are 4 & 5 years old. One Grandma had a day of doctor’s appointments so this Grandma picked up the slack. Grandpa works 3rd, so after many bubbles, tea time, tractor rides, a fascination with the hay loft and lunch I decided to get them out of the house and take them fossil hunting.
We went to Masonic Park – a park without swings! They are city kids…
They did make an effort to find fossils. Essentially picking up rocks and saying, “Fossil?” Nate through all the rocks that didn’t have fossils in them into the creek. Boys love to throw rocks!ย ๐
Then I took them up the road for a ditch hunt. Nevaeh wasn’t having any part of climbing down a dry wash. She stayed on top and watched us. Nate was rewarded with seeing this spring bubbling out the side of the bluff.
We worked the dry wash without much success. But I think it was a totally unique experience for Nate. Only a couple of fossils worth packing home.
And then we went to a “real” park with swings. Devonian bryozoans in the pea gravel!ย ๐
A fun first hunt.
