What an incredible series of Ordovician sea bottom sculptures!

All fossils were collected in the city limits of Rochester, Minnesota in 2014.

What a wonderful way to display your fossil finds!

And how did he do it???

Expanding foam (Great Stuff) and wood glue!!!

Yes, I didn’t believe it either.

I’ve worked with expandable foam before on different projects and I can tell you that it is not only a great adhesive (wait for it to start to setup then sprinkle sand over it and set the fossils into it) but infinitely carve-able. Use the whole can at one time as you can not save it!

The yellow wood glue adheres the foam to the board and is also great to add sand into any voids. This paleo-sculpture is 4′ long and about 2′ wide – I can pick it up with one hand!

Only the two large sculptures on the back are not adhered to it – Fisherites and Cephalopods.
