O’Connell Excavating & Plumbing is located in Spring Valley, MN on Hwy. 63 south. See those rocks layered like a retaining wall? They are ALL fossilized! They are of the Stewartville member of the Galena Formation, Ordovician Period. I had a retaining wall/deck created last year out of these and that is what got me re-interested in fossils! Behind the wall are rocks of all sizes that may show fossils! And you can buy them individually!

After I took the kids on their first fossil hunt, we stopped at O’Connell’s when we got back into town. They had way too much fun!

And even found tiny imprints of brachiopods in the gravel! It took us five minutes of calling to get them back into the car! I think they would have played on the rocks all day if we would have let them. 🙂

The bottom layer is laid in “dragon’s tooth” style. Note the complete Receptaculitids on the right on outdoor mechanic’s pit!

I bought this rock for landscaping for $20!
